Shaped by the meeting of Native American, European, African, and Asian peoples, the nations of Latin America present a rich cultural mosaic and profound social, political, and economic variations. The Latin American Studies program offers students an interdisciplinary framework for studying those diverse and complex societies.
Can I major in it? Students may pursue this interdisciplinary course of study as a major or a minor.
Topics explored: Politics, economic development, ethnicity, gender, religion, and cultural expression.
How to get started: Students are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate Spanish language course, the program’s Argument & Inquiry seminar (LTAM 100), History 170 (Modern Latin America), or other courses related to Latin American Studies.
